The present study deepened the philosophy of hatha yoga. According to Patanjali and Yoga Sutras, the steps of yoga are eight. Each of the yoga steps guides the practitioner το live a life full of meaning and purpose. The mission of the eight steps is to lead the practitioner to liberation and ultimate happiness. The first of the eight steps is yamas. More specifically, in this paper yamas were studied theis analysis, their significance, and their application in modern times, both in the practice of asana and in daily life. Yamas are general ethical thoughts and behaviors that concern the world around human and his interaction with him. In conclusion, practicing yamas is a continuing process. Yamas create a solid background for the transition to deeper levels of concentration and inner strength. Yamas are practicing from those who want a real and complete yoga practice.
