«Burnout and physical activity in English teachers»

The purpose of this study was to examine: a) the level of bunout experienced by a sample of English teachers in primary and secondary education b) the effect of certain demographic variables, such as, educational level and years of experience on teachers burnout and c) the relationship between burnout and physical activity of English teachers. The sample consisted of 94 English Teachers participated in total, all working in public schools of primary education (N=53) and of secondary education (N= 41) in the region of Thessaly. The Maslach Burnout Inventory (Maslach and Jackson, 1986) was used to measure burnout while the Leisure Time Exercise Questionnaire (Godin & Shephard, 1985) was used to assess the level of physical activity. Findings suggest that the burnout levels reported by the English teachers was relatively low. Findings also suggested that there were no significant statistical differences in burnout with respect to educational level and years of experience and no statistically significant differences found between physical activity and the burnout.
